Trump asks Supreme Court to revive dismissed Clinton lawsuit
Source published: Oct 10, 2026 · 7:00 PM EDT · Event: 2026-10-09
President Donald Trump asked the U.S. Supreme Court to revive his dismissed civil lawsuit accusing Hillary Clinton, former FBI Director James Comey, the Democratic National Committee and others of conspiring to damage his 2016 campaign by linking it to Russia, Reuters reported. Trump and attorney Alina Habba also seek to undo nearly $1 million in sanctions. Their petition argues that Trump delayed filing while serving his first presidential term and that Supreme Court review is needed to protect presidential authority.
Response / context
The conspiracy and racketeering claims remain Trump's allegations; no court has found the defendants liable. U.S. District Judge Donald Middlebrooks dismissed the case and found that it advanced a political narrative through abusive litigation, knowingly false factual allegations and frivolous legal theories. The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the dismissal and sanctions. Reuters notes that Special Counsel Robert Mueller found sweeping Russian interference and numerous campaign contacts but did not establish that Trump campaign members conspired or coordinated with the Russian government. The Supreme Court docket confirms two extensions ending October 9 but, when reviewed, did not yet list the petition Reuters said was filed. Filing a petition does not mean the Court will hear the case or disturb the lower-court rulings.
