Democratic groups sue Trump administration over voter-roll pressure

Complaint filed seeking declaratory and injunctive relief; allegations are disputed and no court ruling has been issued

Donald Trump

Democratic campaign committees, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the Nevada Democratic Party and a California voter filed a federal lawsuit alleging that President Donald Trump, the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security unlawfully pressured states to remove registered voters, withhold or segregate ballots, and threatened election officials with prosecution. The 44-page complaint, filed in Washington as DSCC v. Trump, No. 1:26-cv-03674, asks for declaratory and injunctive relief.

Response / context

The Justice Department told Associated Press that election integrity is a top priority and that every action it has taken is grounded in law and being litigated in open court. A White House spokesperson told The Washington Post that Democrats were fighting common-sense election-security measures. The administration's public election-integrity page says DOJ and DHS track enforcement actions under Executive Order 14248, including voter-roll lawsuits and prosecutions for noncitizen voting. The complaint's factual and legal claims have not been adjudicated; filing a lawsuit does not establish that the alleged conduct occurred or was unlawful.
