WHAT THE RECORD SHOWS
The Justice Department list records the pardon on September 3, 2026 and gives his sentencing date as January 9, 2024, with a sentence of 24 months' imprisonment and three years' supervised release. AmmoLand reported that Peterson was a federally licensed firearms dealer in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana who ran PDW Gun Solutions LLC from his Waggaman home, that a magistrate issued a search warrant in June 2022 and agents searching the home and business found a homemade, unserialized suppressor in a bedroom closet safe that was not in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, and that this item, rather than the sales-reporting issues in the warrant affidavit, became the sole charge.
AmmoLand reported that Peterson entered a conditional guilty plea reserving Second and Fourth Amendment appeals, that the Fifth Circuit held suppressors are firearm accessories rather than “Arms” protected by the Second Amendment, that rehearing en banc was denied on December 9, 2025 and that the Supreme Court denied certiorari on April 20, 2026, ending the direct appeal. Former U.S. Pardon Attorney Liz Oyer named Peterson among four men convicted of violating federal firearm laws in this grant. The Ledger ran all thirty names in this grant against FEC contribution records for the 2024 and 2026 cycles and found no contribution it could tie to a recipient.
RESPONSE
Peterson said in a statement quoted by AmmoLand that the case had been “a long and arduous journey” for him and his family, credited his faith, described his case as the tip of the spear against what he called an unconstitutional National Firearms Act, and said the fight was far from over. AmmoLand reported that Gun Owners of America posted on September 4, 2026 thanking the president and naming Peterson among four gun owners pardoned over National Firearms Act convictions. White House pardon czar Alice Marie Johnson, announcing the grants in a September 4 post on X, wrote that September 3 was “a powerful day for second chances” and described the thirty as “deserving individuals” whose cases her team had reviewed.
Correction to the shared entry, September 2026 batch of 30. An earlier version said Emory Jones did not appear on the Justice Department list and described his case as a 2000 conspiracy. The list shows his pardon dated September 8, 2026, and gives October 15, 2000 as his sentencing date. Corrected September 18, 2026.
