WHAT THE RECORD SHOWS
The Justice Department list records the commutation on September 3, 2026, one of six commutations in a batch that also carried twenty-three pardons. It gives her sentencing date as February 20, 2020 and her sentence as 148 months' imprisonment plus three years' supervised release.
Bloom is one of eleven of the thirty recipients that former U.S. Pardon Attorney Liz Oyer was able to identify when she wrote on September 8. Oyer recorded that White House pardon czar Alice Marie Johnson's post named just four recipients and that Bloom was one of them, and noted that it is unclear whether this is the same Molly Bloom whose role in an illegal gambling operation became the subject of a film. The Justice Department record for this recipient shows a drug conspiracy in the Northern District of Texas, and nothing in the entry or its sources connects her to that gambling case. The Ledger ran all thirty names in this grant against FEC contribution records for the 2024 and 2026 cycles and found no contribution it could tie to a recipient.
RESPONSE
White House pardon czar Alice Marie Johnson, announcing the grants in a September 4 post on X, wrote that September 3 was “a powerful day for second chances” and described the thirty as “deserving individuals” whose cases her team had reviewed; former U.S. Pardon Attorney Liz Oyer recorded that Bloom was one of only four recipients Johnson named. The cited reports carry no statement from Bloom or her lawyers.
Correction to the shared entry, September 2026 batch of 30. An earlier version said Emory Jones did not appear on the Justice Department list and described his case as a 2000 conspiracy. The list shows his pardon dated September 8, 2026, and gives October 15, 2000 as his sentencing date. Corrected September 18, 2026.
