WHAT THE RECORD SHOWS
The Justice Department list records the pardon on September 3, 2026 and gives his sentencing date as February 6, 2017, with a sentence of one year's probation. The Kansas Reflector reported that Kettler, a U.S. military veteran, bought a homemade silencer from Shane Cox and was found guilty in 2016 on a single count of buying an unregistered silencer, after both men relied on the Kansas Second Amendment Protection Act, the 2013 state law that declared firearms, ammunition and accessories made, marketed and kept in Kansas could be governed by state law alone.
The Kansas Reflector reported that the felony conviction barred Kettler from owning firearms, that the convictions were upheld in 2018 by the federal appeals court on the ground that federal law is superior to state law, and that the Supreme Court declined to hear the appeals in June 2020, exhausting them. It also reported that state Senator Caryn Tyson petitioned President Trump for a pardon in December 2020, saying the two men had been caught up inadvertently, and that the Kansas Senate passed a resolution urging one. The Ledger ran all thirty names in this grant against FEC contribution records for the 2024 and 2026 cycles and found no contribution it could tie to a recipient.
RESPONSE
The cited sources carry no statement from Kettler after the grant. AmmoLand reported that Gun Owners of America posted on September 4, 2026 thanking the president and naming Kettler among four gun owners pardoned over National Firearms Act convictions. White House pardon czar Alice Marie Johnson, announcing the grants in a September 4 post on X, wrote that September 3 was “a powerful day for second chances” and described the thirty as “deserving individuals” whose cases her team had reviewed.
Correction to the shared entry, September 2026 batch of 30. An earlier version said Emory Jones did not appear on the Justice Department list and described his case as a 2000 conspiracy. The list shows his pardon dated September 8, 2026, and gives October 15, 2000 as his sentencing date. Corrected September 18, 2026.
